Grandma Ople’s Famous Apple Pie Recipe

Ingredients

  • 1 recipe pastry for a 9 inch double crust pie
  • ½ cup unsalted butter
  • 3 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • ½ cup packed brown sugar
  • ½ cup white sugar
  • ¼ cup water
  • 8 Granny Smith apples – peeled, cored, and sliced

Directions

A great apple pie takes time. It takes commitment. And it takes love. Gather your family—parents, children, grandparents—and turn Grandma Ople’s Apple Pie into an annual tradition.

  • Start by preheating your oven to 425 degrees.
  • Melt the butter in a pan on the stove, as it begins to melt stir in the flour to form a paste.
  • Once the paste has started to form, add in the white sugar, brown sugar, and water and bring all of the ingredients to a boil. Then, reduce the temperature and let it simmer on the stove for 5 minutes.
  • While the mixture simmers, place the bottom crust in your pie dish. Fill the dish with the sliced apples.
  • Lattice the top layer of crust together and place on top of the pie; pinch the edges together.
  • Gently pour the sugar and butter mixture over the crust slowly so that it does not run over the edges.
  • Bake for 15 minutes, then reduce the temperature to 350 degrees, and continue baking for 35 to 45 minutes.

Baking a pie with love is as simple as that! Cut a slice for you and your loved ones and enjoy the time spent together this holiday.
